- About the name
- Anẓar, with an emphatic ẓ, is the Tamazight, Tashelhit and Rifian word for rain, written ⴰⵏⵥⴰⵔ. It was also the name of a rain god in Berber tradition, remembered in folklore. Plain Rifian 'anzar' is another word (a large nose), so the Tifinagh spelling matters.

Name of a deity worshipped besides God: disliked
Anzar is the ordinary word for rain, but it is also the name of the Berber rain god, a divinity of sky, water and rain in the traditional religion. Under the rule for names of deities worshipped besides Allah it is rated disliked with a dispute, as a scholar's call; the meaning of the word itself is well attested.
Confidence: low
