Good meaning, nothing against it in the sources

The Greek word means farmer, but the name spread through Saint George, a Christian martyr, and Wikipedia adds that it may first have been a theophoric name from 'Zeus Georgos' (Zeus the farmer). Kept neutral because the meaning is not religious; low confidence: a scholar's call. Some fatwas (IslamWeb 266275, quoting Ibn al-Qayyim and Bakr Abu Zayd) list names such as George, John, Matthew and Rose among those peculiar to non-Muslims, which a Muslim should not take; others (SeekersGuidance) allow foreign names unless their meaning expresses disbelief. Scholars differ.

Confidence: low
