Good meaning, nothing against it in the sources

French form of John. Muslims identify the prophet Yahya with John the Baptist, but the Qur'an uses the form Yahya, and in French the name is also strongly tied to saints. No prophet-name recommendation is made; a scholar's call. Some fatwas (IslamWeb 266275, quoting Ibn al-Qayyim and Bakr Abu Zayd) list names such as George, John, Matthew and Rose among those peculiar to non-Muslims, which a Muslim should not take; others (SeekersGuidance) allow foreign names unless their meaning expresses disbelief. Scholars differ.

Confidence: low
