Good meaning, nothing against it in the sources

Wikipedia says John owes its popularity to two revered saints, John the Baptist and the apostle John. Muslims identify the prophet Yahya with John the Baptist, but the Qur'an uses the form Yahya, so no prophet-name recommendation is made; a scholar's call. Some fatwas (IslamWeb 266275, quoting Ibn al-Qayyim and Bakr Abu Zayd) list names such as George, John, Matthew and Rose among those peculiar to non-Muslims, which a Muslim should not take; others (SeekersGuidance) allow foreign names unless their meaning expresses disbelief. Scholars differ.
